Knowing Who to call at the Moment of Death<\/strong><\/p>\n

You have just been told your loved one is dying soon, maybe even within hours or minutes.\u00a0 You didn\u2019t expect it, or you did, but thought you had more time. And now the nurses are asking\u2026who is your Mortuary?\u00a0 My what<\/em>?\u00a0 Many people don\u2019t even know who that is, let alone know they need one.<\/p>\n

The nurses hand you a black and white wrinkled photocopied list with over 50 names on it. It feels random.\u00a0 Do you just close your eyes and drop your finger on a line?<\/p>\n

Your stunned, heartbroken, overwhelmed, numb\u2026and now you\u2019re feeling rushed. You find yourself thinking I\u2019ll find one myself\u2026I am resourceful<\/em>.\u00a0 So you spend a fat minute on your lap top or iphone flipping through google looking to see what mortuaries appear at top of your search. \u00a0Checking with trembling fingers you swipe to read the finer print. Who is local? Who is open? Do they align with our spiritual beliefs? And, of course, what are their rates?\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

Are they a \u2018mom and pop shop\u2019 or a huge franchise?\u00a0\u00a0 Do they answer the phone at 3am?\u00a0 Who answers the phone at 3am anyway? <\/em>\u00a0And a really gnawing question\u2026how much does this cost<\/em>? What\u2019s included in the complete package?\u00a0 What about a la carte services?<\/em><\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t feel like the time to comparison shop and yet you have to make a choice\u2026and you have to make it quick. How do you pick?\u00a0 Do you look for a name you like, an auspicious sign in their ad image, a certain color, a phrasing in their text that tells you\u2026hey they feel like my people<\/em>.\u00a0 This feels like a right choice, these might<\/em> be the right people that I am hiring to come and pick up my loved one, transport them and care for them over the next sacred days until we can move into the funeral arrangements.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s stressful.\u00a0 Do you keep looking, keep shopping\u2026or do go back to the hospital bed and check on your mother, father\u2026your loved one? Your torn and this is not what you had expected to be dealing with.<\/p>\n

The moment of death is not the time to be googling or yelping for a mortuary.<\/p>\n

These final moments are full enough.\u00a0 Full of caring for your loved one, holding your loved one\u2019s hand and saying goodbye.<\/p>\n

Time matters, presence matters, the end really matters, and it is going to be what you return to over and over again long after they are gone.<\/p>\n

You can plan in advance and you can have you and your family ready for this moment when it comes.\u00a0 You can have a name, a number\u2026and you can rest assured that everything has been taken care of on that end by someone you trust, someone who you have connected with, and represents your values and beliefs.\u00a0 Someone who is available day or night and has promised to support you through this very emotional time.\u00a0 Someone who is offering the services that you value at the price you have thought out and agreed to well in advance. \u00a0You can be ready.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t let this moment take you away from living and dying in the moment.<\/p>\n
